The Regulator welcomes Duke professor Laurent Dubois and filmmaker (and Duke Soccer alumna) Gwendolyn Oxenham for a talk on “Writing Soccer” in celebration of the launch of Dubois’s newest book, The Language of the Game: How to Understand Soccer.
Just in time for the 2018 World Cup, Dubois’s The Language of the Game is a lively and lyrical guide to appreciating the drama of soccer. Profiling soccer's full cast of character, historian and soccer scholar Laurent Dubois describes how the game's low scores, relentless motion, and spectacular individual performances combine to turn each match into a unique and unpredictable story and how soccer's global reach makes it an unparalleled theater for nationalism, international conflict, and human interconnectedness.
